Where We Come From
Wasiat Advocates was established in Kota Kinabalu with a clear purpose: to make estate law accessible, comprehensible, and kind. The founding advocates had spent years in general legal practice before choosing to focus entirely on matters relating to wills, estates, and inheritance — areas where the human dimension is never far from the legal one.
The name Wasiat — the Malay word for will or testament — reflects the practice's core work. Every instruction we receive, whether drafting a will for a young family or guiding a client through the administration of a parent's estate, carries real weight. We do not treat these matters lightly.
Over the years we have helped individuals and families across Sabah put their affairs in order with dignity. Some clients come to us while preparing for the future. Others arrive in the middle of grief, looking for steady guidance. We aim to be the same calm, clear voice in either situation.
Our office on Jalan Gaya has been a constant for clients who value continuity. We know the local courts, the land registry, and the adat considerations that can shape estate matters in Sabah — knowledge that comes only from years of practice in this place.

Rosalin Jailani
FOUNDING ADVOCATE
Called to the Bar in 2001, Rosalin has focused on estate matters for over fifteen years. She leads probate and letters of administration work across Sabah.

David handles will drafting and estate planning. He is known for explaining complex structures in terms that clients find clear and reassuring.
Nadia Krishnan

Our advocates keep up to date with changes to the Wills Act, Probate and Administration Act, and relevant Sabah land legislation through the Bar's annual CPD programme.

Estate Law in Sabah — What to Expect
Inheritance and estate law in Malaysia operates under a number of statutes — the Wills Act 1959, the Probate and Administration Act 1959, and the Distribution Act 1958 among them. In Sabah, there are also specific land ordinances that can affect how property is held and transferred. Navigating these layers requires familiarity not only with the written law but also with local court practice and procedure.
Wasiat Advocates has spent many years working within the Kota Kinabalu courts. We have a working relationship with the local land registry and an understanding of the particular considerations — including customary land rights and native titles — that arise in Sabah.
